Guest Article: USING COOKBOOKS ON KINDLE

Thanks to long-time Kindle Nation citizen Tricia Truax for this concise, helpful piece on one of the excellent uses to which she puts her Kindle and the Kindle for PC app:

USING COOKBOOKS ON KINDLE
by Tricia Truax

What a wonderful tool for the cook!  You can now put a Kindle application on a laptop computer, buy one of the cookbooks available for the Kindle, and have an quick and easy way to use a cookbook as you cook.

Benefits:
  • Your “cookbook” will never get torn, splotched, or ragged.
  • You can increase the size of the font to make it easy to see as you cook.
  • You can search quickly for a recipe that uses a specific ingredient such as “chicken”.
  • You can save recipes with a bookmark to make them easy to find. (see screen-print  below from Make It Fast, Cook It Slow, a gluten-free, crock-pot cookbook by Stephanie O’Dea)
  • Use this feature initially when you get a cookbook to mark all the recipes you want to try.
  • Delete any that you’ve tried and don’t like.
  • Those that remain will be your favorites.
  • You can share cookbooks and recipes easily with family who are on your Kindle account. (It looks like Amazon now permits an unlimited number of devices on your Amazon Kindle account so you can encourage family to sign-on.  One caution, they will all be using your credit card for purchases, so be sure they agree to pay you back for any books they purchase before you invite them.)
