Shaken Moves to Top 15 in Kindle Store as Amazon Flexes Muscles

When I reported yesterday morning that Shaken was available for immediate purchase and download, I suggested that the new Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels detective thriller by Joe Konrath would shake up the publishing world by moving "soon" into the top 50 among Kindle Store bestsellers.

Silly me. Shaken debuted at #143, broke into the top #100 by noon and into the top 50 by 10 p.m. This morning it sits at #15!

Shaken is published by Amazon's publishing imprint, AmazonEncore, and yesterday Joe mentioned on his blog that "the real reason I'm working with Amazon, ego and pleasantries aside, is because of their marketing muscle."

Indeed. When I went directly to the Kindle Store this morning, here's what I saw at the top of the page:

Now that's muscle. Nice. #14 or #15 may not be the limit....

I've long said Amazon could create a bestseller than any publisher could. Or maybe I should say any OTHER publisher.

Got get 'em!

Well, let's keep it real: Joe created it, and Amazon is just following through the way traditional publishers ought to follow through if they knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, traditional publisher marketing these days too often involves things like:
1. Sign authors who have already sold millions of copies or otherwise have a legitimate literary platform as, say, a porn star or teen tart
2. Raise the ebook price so high that fans will be forced to buy the hardcover, preferably before we remainder it
3. Plead with Oprah for a spot on the show

But for just about everything Amazon (and Joe) are doing for Joe's book, a traditional publisher could buy in as part of well-orchestrated campaign.

Ohhh boy...let the big 'ole Happy Dance begin...actually, I started the bootscootin' yesterday over this...but damn have I stepped it up a notch this morning with this news!!!

THIS is the way of the future!

Amazon truly gets that it's a partnership between the author, the publisher, and readers/fans the world over! They understand that each factor has to have its own something big and special in it just for them!!!

And, Steve, your efforts are crucial to this success factor too!!!

Well done!!!
